OUR PASTOR
Conley H. Hughes, Jr. has served as senior pastor of the Concord Baptist Church Boston (“Concord Church”) in Milton, Massachusetts for the over 34 years. He also serves as president of the Concord Baptist Church Housing and Economic Development Corporation (“CBHEDC”), a 501 (c) (3) organization, which seeks to assist the minority communities with home ownership and entrepreneurial resource support. As senior minister, Pastor Hughes presides over an intergenerational Christian fellowship. Concord Church is distinguished as an inviting, Word-affirming, Spirit-empowering, and discipling congregation. Prior to serving Concord Church, Pastor Hughes served close to 10 years as pastor of the historic Calvary Baptist Church in Haverhill Massachusetts. He also served in pastoral support ministry for 8 years.
Dr. Hughes has full ordination standing with the American Baptist Churches, USA, and has ministerial standing with the Progressive National Baptist Convention. He has participated in Christian ministry for over five decades. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS); and chairs the Finance Committee of the Board. Dr. Hughes is a past president of the American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts and the New England Baptist Council. He also served as liaison to the international churches for the General Secretary of the Progressive National Baptist Convention. Pastor Hughes has preached and been engaged in missional travels to England, India, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Barbados and Bermuda.

Pastor Hughes is an advocate of life-long learning and has a passion for communicating the Gospel message in a manner that is practical, with Biblical and theological integrity. He encourages the listener to pursue Christian formation and social responsibility, which leads to transformation, growth, and reconciliation.
Pastor Hughes has served as preacher, university staff, field education supervisor for seminary students; and, pastoral mentor for pastoral residents in the Transition in Ministry Program of the Lily Foundation. Dr. Hughes has served as an adjunct instructor at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; Wheelock College; and co-mentor for the Boston Micah clergy formation group through Fuller Seminary.

Pastor Hughes has an undergraduate degree from Florida Memorial College; two graduate degrees and post -graduate study from Boston University School of Theology; and earned a doctoral degree from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. Reverend Hughes has pursued further studies at the Massachusetts School of Law.
Dr. Hughes serves on the Governor’s Advisory Commission for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and is the recipient of numerous awards including the Daniel Sharpe Award for Ministerial Leadership; Morehouse Board of Preachers; King-Ghandi-Ikeda Award for Nonviolence; the Religious Leadership Award, Urban League; and over 30 local, state, congregational, and presidential citations and resolutions.

Pastor Hughes has been married for over 44 years to Moreen Patricia Hughes (nee Forde), a retired educator and gifted ordained minister, with whom he shared in ministry. They are the grateful parents of 3 children, a son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and six grandchildren.
